Hospice patient John Harmon and his partner, Betty Searles, have been together for over 30 years. In discussions with his Hospice Care Team, John shared that his last wish was to make Betty his wife.
Intrepid USA’s Hospice Care Team in Onancock, Virginia, worked together to fulfill John’s wish. They helped John and Betty to complete the necessary paperwork and planned a beautiful wedding ceremony at the elderly couple’s home.
In a ceremony officiated by Sherri Brown, Intrepid USA’s Chaplain & Bereavement/Volunteer Coordinator, John and Betty were married at their home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
Sherri and the Intrepid USA Team made the bride’s bouquet and wedding rings. The couple had purchased rings for each other, but they were the wrong size – so Sherri fashioned rings out of golden pipe cleaners for the couple to use at the ceremony.
The long-time pair were overjoyed to finally be husband and wife and were touched by the efforts of Intrepid USA’s Hospice Care Team to fulfill John’s last wish.
